Pleasant Ridge Police have asked residents to be aware of a series of cell phone thefts happening on the West side of Woodward near Poplar Park, Elm Park and Oxford Blvd.

According to Officer Robert Reid the robbers are targeting people who are walking and talking on their cell phones. “The suspects pick a person walking with a cell phone in their hand. The passenger gets out of a car a few houses behind the person walking. The driver pulls the car ahead of the walker and waits. The man on foot then runs up ctechadbehind the walker and takes her cell phone. He then runs to the car and the car takes off with both men and the victim’s cell phone.”

All three victims have been female. According to Reid, the suspect taking the phone is a black male approximately 20 years old, 6’ tall, thin to average build, with no facial hair. In the latest incident he was wearing jeans and a black hoodie pulled over his head. In the first two incidents, the witnesses described the car used as red or maroon. In an incident on Aug. 30, a witness reported a dark colored vehicle. None of the witnesses have been able to obtain a license plate number. All three of the incidents have taken place between 4pm-9pm.

“Pleasant Ridge Police ask that you call us anytime you see any suspicious cars or people, and be aware of your surroundings when out walking or jogging,” said Reid in his public notice of the incidents.

When contacted about the crimes, Reid said police are investigating but that they do not have any suspects yet.
