Police Report: Fatal Moped Accident

On 08/21/13 at 2:55 p.m. Ferndale Police and Fire responded to an accident on Farrow / Saratoga where a 59 year old man riding a moped was killed after crashing into an electric pole. Witnesses saw the man riding n.b. on Farrow and said he was weaving before swerving into a pole on the east side of the street. The man was not wearing a helmet. When the moped struck the pole, the man went over the handle bars and struck his head into the pole. He got up, tried to pick up his bike, and talked to witnesses, but shortly after fell down unconscious. He could not be revived.

The man was not traveling fast.

This unfortunate incident should serve as a reminder as the benefit of wearing helmets while using a moped or bicycle.
