Ferndale’s Nov. 5 Election Choices Announced
(City of Ferndale Press Release, Aug. 13, 2013)
The list of potential candidates confirmed to run for City office in the November 5, 2013 election has been finalized.
Voters in the City of Ferndale will elect a Mayor from among four (4) candidates: incumbent David Coulter, and challengers Craig Covey, Linda Parton, and Sherry A. Wells. The Mayor serves a two-year term.
Incumbent Melanie C. Piana and Greg Pawlica are running for the two (2) City Council positions on the ballot. Current City Council Member T. Scott Galloway, whose term expires this year has opted not to run for re-election. City Council Members serve four-year terms.
The Ferndale Public Library Board of Directors is seeking to fill four seats. Over the past two years, a number of directors have resigned their positions on the Board in order to pursue other opportunities, leaving two partial terms to be filled. Frank Castronova and Adrienne Fazzolara Gilmore are running for these two terms which expire January 1, 2018. Vying for the two full term seats, which expire January 1, 2020, are incumbents Judeen Bartos and Monique Herzig.
Ferndale voters will also be deciding whether or not to adopt an ordinance which would decriminalize the use, possession or transfer of less than 1 ounce of marijuana, on private property, by persons 21 years or older. Andrew Cissell, a Ferndale resident, petitioned City Council to adopt the ordinance. City Council, at their August 12, 2013 meeting failed to take action to do so. In accordance with the City’s Charter, the question now goes before the City’s qualified electors.
