Rhonda Walker Foundation Youths Get Spa Treatment
(RWF Press Release, July 26, 2013)
On Sunday, July 21, 2013 Lillie D’or Salon and Spa located in Ferndale on Woodard Avenue between 8 and 9 mile opened its doors to 17 Detroit inner city youths of the Rhonda Walker Foundation for a day filled with complementary spa services.
The Rhonda Walker Foundation (RWF) founded in 2003 by WDIV’s TV Local 4 News Anchor Rhonda Walker selected Lillie D’or to conduct its annual spa-tacular event. The event kicked off with opening remarks from salon owner Tameshia McConnell (MeMe) coupled with delicious hor d’ourves then lead into five tutorial sessions educating on the importance of proper care for hair, nails, skin and the benefits of massage therapy. Following the tutorials the RWF girls received complementary services from hair stylist, manicurist, makeup artist, aestheticism, and massage therapist.
Approaching the last minutes of the event Lillie D’or announced a RWF girl, Taylor, as the winner of a complete makeover for her prom. Taylor, filled with emotion, could barely stand to retrieve a hug from McConnell as she stated, “I never win anything!” The event concluded with all of the RWF girls exiting with Lillie D’or gift bags filled with fresh chocolate strawberries, gourmet chocolate drizzled popcorn, a $25 certificate to return, and a Lillie D’or tank top. “It was a humbling experience to give back and make these girls feel as beautiful as they truly are,” said McConnell.
