Highland Games in Lake Orion Show Scottish Heritage (video)JudyPalmer01

(Crystal A. Proxmire, July 4, 2013)

The Scottish American Society of Michigan brought out the whole nine yards this weekend for the 2013 Highland Games in Canterbury Village of Lake Orion.  It was a great opportunity for families to learn about Celtic history and heritage. Story-tellers explained the unique ways of battle that protected the Highlands, men in kilts competed in heavy athletics like the caber toss, warriors demonstrated their weapons, and people danced to the sound of bagpipes.  Sheep-herding demonstrations showed the skill of border collies, and a wild bird display let kids and adults get a close-up look at some of Michigan’s falcons.  To find out more about the Highland Games, visit their website at http://www.midwesthighlandgames.com/.  For other Scottish festivals, or to learn more about the Scottish American Society of Michigan, visit their website at www.michiganscots.com.
