A new, not-for-profit organization has been formed in Oakland County by Water Resources Commissioner Jim Nash, and others, to provide educational programs and events supporting protection and preservation of our natural water resources. The organization is based in Waterford, and is applying for 501(c)(3) tax exempt status.

The group is sponsoring water festivals held each year at Oakland University and at the Cranbrook Institute of Science. The festivals reach thousands of school-age children with programs on river health, pollution prevention, and the importance of protection of our natural resources. The ctechadorganization also will sponsor a Storm Water Summit in October at Lawrence Technological University in Southfield.

The mission statement of Pure Oakland Water reads as follows:

Pure Oakland Water is a Michigan not-for-profit organization dedicated to protecting Oakland County and regional water resources through public education, community organizing, environmental advocacy, and promotion of a sustainable future.

The organization’s board of directors includes Commissioner Nash, President; Craig Covey, Treasurer; Ryan Cook, Secretary; with Phil Sanzica and Executive Director of the Clinton River Watershed Council, Anne Vaara, as board members.

Funds will be raised through corporate support, event sponsorships and donations.
