Ferndale 115 News Gets Investigative Journalism Award

Crystal A. Proxmire, Editor & Publisher of The Ferndale 115 News took home a third place award for Investigative Reporting for an Online News publication from the Detroit Society of Professional Journalists. Proxmire and other award winners were honored at a banquet at the San Marino Club in Troy on April 17.
Proxmire’s series on the ICE contracts, titled “Superintendent Cancels Controversial Contract,” took home a third place award. First place went to WXYZ Digital Staff, Investigators for their series Wayne County Confidential. Second place went to Ron French of Bridge Magazine for Michigan’s Forgotten 4-year-olds.
Awards were given for several classes of organizations, including Television Broadcast, Radio Broadcast, four different classes of Print, and Online media.
For 91 years the Detroit SPJ has “fought to preserve the public’s right to know while insuring that journalists adhere to the highest professional standards,” said Chapter President Walter Middlebrook in his program introduction letter.
At the event many other reporters and news professionals were recognized, including Al Allen and Ron Dzwonkowski who received Lifetime Achievement Awards.
