“When I grow up to be President of the United States the greatest thing is I can bring it all back here to where it started at the Rotary Club, so I’m really excited about that.”

This is the dream of Ferndale High School Senior Christopher Triplett who is planning on heading to Yale University to major in Business and Political Science.  Triplett is one of three graduating seniors who received a $2,000 scholarship from the Ferndale Rotary at their April 11 student appreciation dinner.

Eleven students were honored at the annual scholarship dinner.  Azurae Chalk, Albertina Mays and Alexis Thompson were there from University High School.  Students from Ferndale High School baby01honored were Antonique Chambers, Dominique Chambers, Celeste Goedert, Troy Dil-Reese, India Solomon, Joseph Traynor, Chrisopher Triplett and Reness Wolosion.  The students and their families enjoyed a dinner prepared by Shriner’s Silver Gardens, and they listened to speeches from local business leaders.

Ferndale High School Senior Troy Dill-Reese and University High School Senior Alexis Thompson also received the $2,000 scholarships.  Dill-Reese is pursuing a career in drama, but plans to major in business so that he has a back-up plan.  Thompson plans on using mechanical engineering to solve environmental problems such as protecting water quality.

Counselor Kathy Wiley spoke to the students about volunteerism, as did local businessmen Jerome Raska and Jay McMillan.  To view Wiley’s speech and the award presentations, check out the video below:
