Police Report: $16 Dine and Dash Leads to Fleeing and Eluding Arrest
(Lt. William Wilson, Ferndale Police Department, March 6, 2013)
On 03/05/13, Ferndale Police received a call of a customer who failed to pay for a bill at Buffalo Wild Wings on 9 Mile Rd. The restaurant caller said the bill was for approximately $16. The caller described the person and vehicle he left in. Shortly after, a Ferndale officer saw the car on 8 Mile / Livernois. He and a patrol Sgt. stopped the suspect (STANFIELD) vehicle at Livernois / Pembroke.
The officers discussed the matter with Stanfield and gave him the opportunity to return to the restaurant rather than pay the bill. As the officers stood next to Stanfield, he put the car in gear, turned into the traffic lane (causing the officers to move or be run over), yell an obscenity at them, and sped off. Officers pursued as Stanfield fled at high rates of speeds through Detroit streets down Livernois and 7 Mile Road.
Due to factors including the minor nature of the original reported crime and that officers knew the identity of the suspect, the police stopped chasing the suspect who fled into neighborhood streets. Officers did go to the area of Stanfield’s house to see if he went home. About 20 minutes they saw him drive up to his house, get out of the car, and attempt to go into his house. Officers stopped him and arrested him for Fleeing and Eluding and Failure to pay his restaurant bill.
The case has been presented to the prosecutor’s office. Stanfield will likely be arraigned this afternoon. He has a criminal past that includes theft and Criminal Sexual Conduct.
SUSPECT: Marlon Cortez STANFIELD, b/m, 35, Detroit resident
