Fracking Discussion Feb. 27

Water Resource Commissioner to Host Fracking Discussion Feb. 27Ferndale Reads Ad copy

(Oakland County Water Resources Press Release, Feb. 25, 2013)

Jim Nash, the new Oakland County Water Resources Commissioner, announces the first in a series of town hall meetings around the county. These meetings will focus on the impact of new state-issued oil and natural gas drilling leases in Oakland County.

These leases could bring “fracking” to our area as well.

ctechadFracking, the common term for slick water horizontal fracturing, drills wells up to two miles into the earth, then turns the drill bit horizontally to drill up to several miles. The resulting well is then filled with millions of gallons of fresh water mixed with sand, salts and chemicals. This mixture is then subjected to bursts of intense pressure, to loosen rock formations and release natural gas.

The town hall will be at the West Bloomfield Township Hall, at 4550 Walnut Lake Road, in West Bloomfield, MI, beginning at 6 pm on Wednesday, February 27th.
