Ferndale Public Library to Launch “Lucky Day” Collection

Ferndale Public Library to Launch “Lucky Day” CollectionDDAsample01

(FPL Press Release, Feb. 7, 2013)

Discover a new reason to fall in love with your library this Valentine’s Day. On February 14th, the library will officially launch the new “Lucky Day” collection.  “Lucky Day is a collection of the most popular, current, in-demand books,” explains Library Director Jessica Keyser. “We have filled the Lucky Day shelves with best-sellers and other books that currently have a long waiting list. We hope that our patrons will be surprised and delighted by their ‘luck’ in finding these titles on the shelf when they walk in the door, no waiting required. The Lucky Day collection is our love letter to the Ferndale community.”

To celebrate the launch of the Lucky Day collection, each person who checks out a Lucky Day book on February 14th will be entered into the raffle to win fun prizes. The library will also be giving away tasty treats to enjoy while you devour your book. Librarian Darlene Hellenberg is very excited to reveal the Lucky Day http://www.greenthumbferndale.com/collection to the public. Based on her experience working with the Ferndale community, she thinks the collection will be a huge hit. Hellenberg says that she often feels frustrated when she has to put patrons on a waiting list for a book they are excited to read. She says, “I’m excited to put books in people’s hands instead of having to always place holds. We are living in a world of instant gratification, and when you tell someone they are going to have to wait several weeks to get what they want, they are disappointed. I am hoping to have a lot more happy patrons because of the Lucky Day collection.”

The Friends of the Ferndale Library made an $8,000 contribution to the library in December to fund the start-up of the Lucky Day collection, and to sponsor popular programs at the library. “We are so grateful to the Friends of the Ferndale Library for their support,” says Keyser. “There are a lot of things we couldn’t do Reid_Sally_115without them!”

The Lucky Day books can be checked out for one week. No holds may be placed on Lucky Day books, and they cannot be renewed. The overdue fines are 25 cents per day for Lucky Day books. Patrons can only check out one Lucky Day book at a time. The library staff hopes these rules will help to ensure that there is a quick turn-over for the Lucky Day books.
