The work of the Ferndale 115 News is growing beyond the city’s four square miles, and recently Editor & Publisher Crystal Proxmire had the opportunity to talk about that work on the Art & Design Show out of Bloomfiled Township.
The show features people who are working passionately in areas of art and design as well as in the media or even small business owners who are doing creative things. Art & Design Host John Sauve is the President of the Sauve Art Foundation, which strives to spread the importance of creative work through society. Their public art projects enrich cities across the county, their programming teaches art to under-served youth, and the Art & Design Program recognizes and shares work that is done by others.
In this program, Proxmire explains why The Ferndale 115 News is important, not just to Ferndale but to the overall profession of journalism. She discusses the risk of a corporate news monopoly, and how news has changed in the past three decades. Plus she talks about how the Ferndale community has been supportive of her work.
The interview ties in perfectly with Proxmire’s fundraising efforts to attend the National Conference for Media Reform in Denver, which is coming up in April. Readers who believe in The Ferndale 115 News and want to help spread independent community journalism are encouraged to buy a $15 Thank You ad to help fund this important trip. Readers who have already shown their support have a collage of ads on the Thank You page. For more information go to http://oaklandcounty115.com/reader-support/.
