An Interview with Dennis and Marty Hoeppner (video)
(Crystal A. Proxmire, Jan. 20, 2013)
As part of our new interview series, The Ferndale 115 News sat down with long-time residents Dennis and Marty Hoeppner. The Hoeppners got married in 1961 and have lived together in Ferndale ever since. They are active in the Ferndale Seniors and in local political campaigns and charity events. Dennis has won Senior of the Year and Citizen of the Year.
Listen as they recall Ferndale history, including a large fire that took out several businesses at the corner of 9 and Woodward, the birth of the Kulick Community Center, and a write-in campaign that changed the face of politics in the city.
In addition to the history, the Hoeppners shared humorous moments, like when Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson unwittingly boosted the strip club business, how Dennis cornered Marty for their first kiss, and their adventure to the drag show in Las Vegas.
Those who know Dennis and Marty will recognize their love of family and community, and may enjoy hearing their experiences.
UPDATE: Dennis Hoeppner passed away on Jan. 28, 2013.
