University High School Info Session Jan. 23

Ferndale’s University High School is hosting an Information Session for potential students and their families to learn more about the unique opportunities at this rigorous, college prep public high school on Wednesday, January 23 beginning promptly at 6:30 p.m. in the school Media Center located at 1244 Paxton in Ferndale (just west of Hilton, east of Woodward and south of 9 Mile).  Students who will be entering 9th and 10th grades from across the metro area are welcome to attend with their families and meet the teachers to learn more about this unique college-preparatory bluesfestival2013high school opportunity.  Please RSVP to 248/586-8846. There are 125 spots available for Fall 2013.

Future sessions include: Saturday, March 2 at 1 p.m., Wednesday, March 20, Thursday, April 18, Tuesday, May 7, Tuesday, June 4, Wednesday, June 19, Tuesday, July 2, Wednesday, July 17, Tuesday, July 30, Wednesday, Aug. 14, and Tuesday, August 27. All weekday sessions are held from 6:30-8 p.m.

At UHS, college admission and success are primary goals of every teacher and student.  Two special staff members help every student prepare for college success. College applications, scholarships and financial aid, supports are provided while student are in high school, and once UHS graduates begin college. The UHS College Success Advisor guides them ctechadthrough their transition to university life and success in their college courses.  Successful graduates of UHS are assured admission to Lawrence Tech, and five years of graduates have all gone on to colleges of their choice including historically black colleges, University of Michigan, Michigan State University, Wayne State University, Oakland University, and more.

Ferndale’s University High School is a public high school operated by the Ferndale Public Schools with a mission to ensure all students graduate not only from high school, but also from college.  UHS was founded in 2005 in a partnership with Lawrence Technological University that provides on-campus and dual enrollment Reid_Sally_115opportunities for UHS students. Five classes of UHS graduates have entered college with an average 99% graduation rate, 100% of students have been accepted to colleges and post-secondary programs, and more than 85% are attending college.  UHS graduates report that they have been exceptionally well prepared for their college studies thanks to the excellent teachers and programs.  UHS received a national award in 2010 from the National School Boards Association Journal for innovation and success in preparing students for the rigors of college.

University High School is seeking next fall’s 9th and 10th graders to enroll now for Fall 2013.
