Christmas Decorations Destroyed, But Not the Spirit

(C. Proxmire, Dec. 19, 2012)

Ken Arnold has always been proud of his Christmas decorations.  Each year he and his partner Adam put great care into decorating their house on East Breckenridge, with lights and décor inside and out.

But this year a vandal has tried to dampen their spirits.  On Tuesday morning they found much of their work destroyed.  “We were walking out the door to go to work and discovered it.   We had a 5 ft tree with 500 lights on it, broken into pieces, completely destroyed.   All of our yard decorations were pulled up and thrown around the yard,” Arnold said.  A neighbor also had their ceramic dog moved.

Arnold called the Ferndale Police, who told then there had not been any other reports of holiday decoration vandalism.

The 5 ft. tree was destroyed, but they were able to re-use most of the other decorations.  The home has won holiday light awards twice in the past.  “We do it up good,” Arnold said.  “Me and my partner Adam love Christmas and will keep it up past New Years.

“If I could say anything it would be: To the vandals, I hope you got something out of it and it made you happy to try to ruin our spirit. But guess what? You didn’t. Upset? Yes, ruin our Xmas? Nope!”

This year’s Holiday Light Awards have not yet been announced, but you can check out the winners from 2010 and 2011.
