It has been 14 years now, since creating a venue that wasn’t just your ordinary art fair, but one that focused on less being more. Siouxsan and her former partner wanted and successfully found that their passion to not only bring together a community of artists to share their talent, but to reach out to buyers who really appreciate and support art can happen. The concept of putting together a more intimate show, they found from doing shows out of their homes, really allows one time to view in-depth what each artists has to offer. Also the relaxed and fun atmosphere created encourages one to mingle and take it all in.
Customers are encouraged to vote for their favorite artist for a People’s Choice award. The winner receives a cash prize and offer to show again the next year, while the people who voted for the winner get a chance to win one of many donated handmade items.
Each year the energy continues and the current trend has caught up to the initial mission to showcase Michigan artists, buying handmade and keeping the money at home. The event is kept fresh and interesting by rotating in new artists each year and maintaining a nice balance of mediums. Some artists are veterans, having displayed their work for more than 25 years, while others are just starting out. Every year both artists and customers share in the upbeat vibe that surrounds this show, making it “a must” stop to shop every November. Don’t miss the opportunity to support local talent and find amazing unique gift items for the holidays.
You are invited to the Drayton Avenue Church to see for yourself the creative displays and wares that make this venue a little gem not to be missed, a reminder to shop local and handmade! If you would like more information contact: siouxsan@siouxsan.com.
