Veterans Day in Ferndale 2012

Each year on Nov. 11 at 11:11am members of the Ferndale Memorial Association, Ferndale Elks, Hangin’ with the Heroes and other residents gather at the Memorial Mall on Livernois to pay homage to United States Veterans, and those of allied nations as well.

The bell is rung, the Pledge of Allegiance is recited, and speeches are given.  Mayor David Coulter talked about the history of Veterans Day, and shared a story about the people guarding the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.  Captain Steve Lemlin talked about his experience in service.  Ron Gilmour read a poem honoring Vets.  And Harley Earl presided over the service.
