Gunshots Fired at Hazel Park Students
(C. Proxmire, Oct. 29, 2012)
On Friday, Oct. 26, 2012 at approximately 5:30 PM, there was an altercation on Nine Mile between two groups of teenagers. A statement issued by Hazel Park High Principal Don Vogt on the Hazel Park Schools website says:
“According to reports, one of these groups walked down Hughes toward the high school. The second group followed in a car and caught the first group just north of the high school. At that time, the people in the car fired several shots at individuals near the high school baseball diamond. Fortunately, no individuals were hit or injured.
“At this time we are not sure of the identities of those involved. Because of this uncertainty, we will take precautions at the high school on Monday. The following will be in place:
“1. We will lock all external doors and limit entry and exit to only front and back doors.
2. We will be in light lockdown, meaning classrooms will be locked during each educational period.
3. We will have an increased police presence.”
