The DIY Street Fair (Do It Yourself) took place the weekend of Sept. 14-16, drawing thousands of people to the East side of 9 Mile Road in Downtown Ferndale. On the West side of 9 Mile, the Funky Ferndale Art Fair also took place. Both showcased artwork and offered vendors and family fun. The DIY also had three nights worth of concerts with local bands on two stages, performances by Theatre Bizarre, a Ferris Wheel, a charity dunk tank, two beer tents, and a multitude of local artists, crafters, and other small businesses represented. A dedicated recycling crew kept the entire event green and clean, keeping 1,800 lbs. of recyclables from going to the landfill. Camp Casey, an organization that introduces sick children to horses, set up a horse-petting area, and various charities benefited from the charity beer tent throughout the weekend.
