Six People Arrested in Fight at Taft (DLC)
Officers had to subdue one student by use of a TASER. Eventually six people were arrested for their involvement in the incident. Five of the males (three 18 years old, two 17 years old) are still in custody and a female (18) has been released pending further investigation.
West Nine Mile Streetscape Project Approved
With street and sewer replacements scheduled already, the Downtown Development Authority (DDA) and City staff have working to find grants that would allow them to piggy back off the construction project and make the area look better as well.
The project, approved Monday night, will provide several big changes from Planavon to Pinecrest, including:

Fido Does Ferndale 2012 (video)
Fido Does Ferndale took place on Thursday in Downtown Ferndale. The event kicked off with a musical set by local musician Ryan Dillaha, who was happy to hear the doggies singing along. Then Councilperson Dan Martin and Jerome Raska introduced the event and helped corral the dogs and their leash-holders into formation for the Pooch Parade.

The Mui family moved to the US from Hong Kong in 1968, and have been residents of Ferndale for the past 38 years. Karen Fung Ping Mui was a very intelligent, hard working woman who raised six children who adored her.

So far the suspect(s) remain at large. Police are asking residents in Ferndale and surrounding cities to keep their eyes open for a silver Ford Ranger pick-up with an Oxbow logo on the side of it. There may be bullet holes in it.
JFK All-District Fall Festival Saturday at Kennedy
This year’s event, sponsored by the JFK PTA, is scheduled for Saturday, October 20, from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm at John F. Kennedy Elementary School.
The festival will again feature activities and games for kids, including a rock-climbing wall (weather permitting), inflatable bounce house, slides, carnival games, and the popular Haunted Hallway. Arts and crafts, a Boo-tique (featuring face painting) and bake sale will round out the afternoon.
Flash Mob Brings Attention to Hunger Strike
When two people seemed to randomly break out in a dance routine, people started to gather around. Music pumped out through speakers from Affirmations and suddenly people in solid red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple shirts emerged from the clusters of onlookers and began dancing as well.
Toy Gun Gives False Alarm at Roosevelt
Roosevelt Principal Dina Rocheleau spoke to her students about the importance of reporting concerns like this to an adult, and never handling dangerous objects. She said: “I’m proud of our student for reporting his concerns to the teacher, and I treated him to lunch in the cafeteria to show my appreciation.”
Ferndale Veteran Receives Purple Heart (video)
A lifelong Ferndale resident who was severely injured during the Vietnam War has finally been given his rightfully earned Purple Heart. With an audience of about one hundred friends, family and fellow vets and servicemen, Army Sgt. Tom Ducharme received the medal from Senator Carl Levin on Oct. 5, 2012. His wife Jeanmarie and sons Matt and Jack looked on with pride.
Meet the Ferndale School Board Candidates: Questionaires & Forums
Voters in the Ferndale School District will have the opportunity on Nov. 6 to vote for up to four representatives to the School Board. There are four open seats on the board, and eight candidates running.
The candidates have formed “slates.” This means that candidates have teamed up to run based on their similar viewpoints.
