Public Comment Period and Public Hearing Scheduled for Polar Environmental Service Corporation’s Permit Application for a Disposal Facility
(City of Ferndale Press Release, Aug. 29, 2012)
The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) is holding a public comment period from August 24, 2012, until September 27, 2012, and a public hearing on September 27, 2012, on Polar Environmental Service Corporation’s (PESC) proposed operation of a treatment, storage, and disposal facility for waste oils, water, and coolants that are not hazardous waste. The facility is located at 707 East Lewiston, Ferndale, Michigan.
The City of Ferndale and the MDEQ both believe that public input is necessary before moving forward with permit approval.
City Manager April Lynch said “The City is excited that the public has a voice in this process. The public comment period and hearing offers and opportunity for interested parties to share their concerns and questions before the MDEQ moves forward with the proposed conditional approval of PESC’s Permit to Install.”
The public hearing will be held on September 27, 2012 at 6 pm, in the Ferndale High School Auditorium. MDEQ’s staff will provide a brief introduction regarding the proposed project, respond to comments received during the public comment period, and answer questions directed from the audience.
During the public comment period, (August 24-September 27), the public is encouraged to submit their written views to the MDEQ by letter or by web response. All statements received prior to the public hearing will be considered by the decision-maker prior to the final permit action.
