Library Trustee John Sterritt Resigns, Board Seeks Applicants to Fill Term

(FPL Press Release, Ferndale 115 News, Aug 10, 2012)

John Sterritt, Trustee and former President of the Ferndale Public Library Board, announced his resignation at a recent library board meeting. His resignation is effective on August 23, 2012 at 11:00, following the board’s regular August meeting.

Sterritt commented that, “the library has been an integral part of my life since Jean and I attended the visioning sessions. As a member of the building committee and later as a library board trustee I’ve been privileged to serve the wider community that relies on the library. Though I’ll miss the first rate people I served with on the board, I know that there is a wealth of talent and experience that is up to the particularly demanding job of steering the library through a time when traditional sources of funds are shrinking while public demands on the library are increasing.”

Library Board President Jim O’Donnell thanked him, saying, “John brought his calm presence and thoughtful decision-making to every meeting. We will miss him greatly on the board, and look forward to seeing Jean and him at the library many times in the coming years, with books in hand.”

The vacancy created by Sterritt’s resignation creates an open seat on the library board.  The board will appoint an interim successor to serve until the next city election in November 2013. Persons interested in being appointed to the seat should send a letter with their contact information, outlining their qualifications and stating why they wish to serve on the board.  Letters should be addressed to the Ferndale Library Board and may be sent via e-mail to ferndale.libboard@gmail.com or may be mailed to the library at 222 E. Nine Mile Road, Ferndale, Michigan 48220.   The deadline is September 6, 2012. The board will interview applicants on September 13th at 7:00 PM.
