Pig & Whiskey Gets Ferndale Full!

(C. Proxmire, Ferndale 115 News, July 18, 2012)

With the lure of great local bands, multiple styles of BBQ, and plenty of booze to wash it down, The Pig & Whiskey festival brought over 10,000 people to Downtown Ferndale on Saturday alone.  Sizable crowds attended Friday and Sunday as well. The massive event, put on by Metro Times, The Woodward Avenue Brewers and The Emory, took place July 13, 14, and 15, 2012.

Local bands like The Beggars, Dutch Pink, The Hard Lessons, Child Bite and Electric Six were among those who took control of the stage, and family-friendly activities like bean-bag tossing gave the kids something to do.  While many brands were represented, Jack Daniels was the overwhelming whiskey of choice, and their traveling bar and Jack Daniels Harleys caught the attention of the crowds.

A portion of the proceeds from the event go to the Ronald McDonald House, and event coordinators brought in a team of workers to sort all of the garbage so as to avoid sending recyclables to the landfill.

This is the second year for Pig & Whiskey, and it’s likely to be a continued tradition. To look for Pig & Whiskey updates, go to www.metrotimes.com/pigandwhiskey.
