Oakland County Commission Candidate Forum: Two Incumbents, One Seat
July 12, 2012
(C. Proxmire, Ferndale 115 News, July 11, 2012)
The League of Women Voters is hosting a candidate forum at Ferndale City Hall on Thursday, July 12, 2012 at 7pm, where County Commission candidates will be able to talk about the issues in an objectively-moderated forum.
This election is unique in that Oakland County has reduced the number of districts, and two incumbent Democrat County Commissioners are now living in the same district and will have to run against each other in the primary.
For those that chose the Democratic ticket, the August 7th primary will give voters in the newly formed 18th District (Ferndale, Hazel Park, Huntington Woods, Royal Oak Township, and part of Oak Park) the choice between current Democratic commissioners Helaine Zack and Craig Covey. After the August 7, 2012 primary, the victor will face a Republican named Steven Zimberg who from Huntington Woods.
Covey who lives in Ferndale currently represents Ferndale as part of the 25th District. Zack, who is from Huntington Woods, currently represents the 22nd. The Districts were changed as part of the redistricting process.
Zimberg could not be reached at the email or phone number provided on the Oakland County Clerk’s election page.
