Residents Seek Help Rescuing Maltese in Pleasant Ridge/Ferndale

The search is one for a small white Maltese that has been wandering around Pleasant Ridge since late last week. The dog is afraid of humans who have been trying to help, and residents suspect that it may be a dog featured in a Craig’s List ad looking for one that was taken in a burglary.
Janet Eggen is one of the residents who has been coordinating the search.
“He was spotted at the home of 16 Ridge Rd on Thrusday July 5th,” Eggen said. “The owner fed him an entire can of dog food. They tried to pick him up but he growled and ran. Since then he has been spotted on Kenberton and Woodside only – early morning hours and early evening only.
‘We attempted a rescue on Saturday evening with four people, but we could not catch him. We were within two feet of him but he squeezed through a picket fence and we couldn’t find him after that.
‘Sunday eve I organized 10 volunteers. We surrounded the two streets, some on bikes, some in cars and others on foot. We searched every yard and garage on both streets. we talked with home owners. Most people have seen him or are at least aware of him. We did not find him. I knew he was no longer in the area because he has been very predictable.
Monday morning, someone posted on the Pleasant Ridge Community FB page that he was spotted on Sylvan on the east side of Woodward. Amazingly he was able to cross Woodward safely, but there have been no sightings since.
‘We know he is injured because a homeowner on Woodside saw a wound on his side. Another home owner on Ridge said she thought he was limping.
‘I want to find him because he is in trouble and I care about animals. If it was our lost pet, I would hope for the same compassion. He is lucky he found such a caring community. I was so upset last night that we did not find him, that I had difficulty sleeping. I’m committed to finding this little guy and bringing him to safety.
‘We contacted the P.R police to contact me if they get a report that he has been seen or captured. We do not want animal control involved. We will house him until we search for a missing family. If not found, we have a family in P.R who wants him.
Eggan said that a Facebook Page called “For the Love of Louie MI” is a great network for tracking lost and found pets. “People need to know about this page. Many animals are reunited this way,” she said.
Volunteers speculate the dog may have been stolen from a home in Detroit during a robbery. “He fits the description and the picture of an ad on Craig’s List,” she said. “The stolen dog is microchiped. If we can catch this dog we will have him scanned.”
