Top business executives in Ferndale will be joining forces with City administration and other regional economic development professionals to promote business growth. The Mayor’s Business Council, first announced by Mayor David Coulter in his 2012 State of the City Address as part of his mission to make Ferndale “the easiest, friendliest city to open or expand a business in Oakland County,” will be led by Mayor Coulter and Council Chair Ned Staebler, Vice President for Economic Development at Wayne State University and an Ann Arbor resident.

“The best way to grow our local economy is to leverage our local assets,” Staebler said. “I’m excited to help connect Ferndale’s business community with the resources at Wayne State and foster greater collaboration between industry, academia, and government.”

The Mayor’s Business Council is made up of area business leaders and entrepreneurs, representatives of major educational institutions, economic development professionals, elected officials and city administration.  The Council will hold its first meeting August 2nd.

“Cities that will be successful in the future will be those that transform from being the enforcer of rules and regulations to real partners in the growth of businesses,” Coulter said.  “I’m grateful that this group of talented people has agreed to help advise us in Ferndale on how to do this better.”
