2012 Ferndale Beautification Awards Presented

(C. Proxmire, June 27, 2012)

Every year the Ferndale Beautification Commission presents awards to residents and businesses that make improvements to their properties.  The awards encourage creativity and pride in the community.

Peggy Snow presented the June 2012 awards at the Ferndale City Council meeting of June 25, 2012.

The Commercial Award was given to Green Daffodil at 624 Livernois.  This adorable boutique has vintage goods, crafts, housewares, gifts, homemade soaps and other pretty things.

Diane & Dave Smith of 744 Pearson received a Residential Award. Snow said read the comments made by the neighbor that nominated the home.  “Dave’s garden is always colorful, creative and beautiful,” she said.  She described it as being “a corner lot with a lot of flowers in front and back.”

Nancy Jackson of 401 East Oakridge also won a Residential Award.  “They’ve lived there two years, widened the sidewalk and steps, and planted,” Snow said.  “It was just a plain white house for many many years, now they have two-tone which really catches your eye.  They opened up an enclosed porch and the whole frond yard is flowers, so they really did dress the house up.”

Award Winners are based on nominations from neighbors.  To have a house or business considered, pick up a form at the Library, City Hall or the Kulick Center or call the Department of Public Works at 248-546-2519.  You can also visit the Forms and Permits section of the City of Ferndale website at http://www.ferndale-mi.com/Resources/FormsandPermits.htm#BeautificationAward.
