Ferndale Community Foundation Announces 2012 Grantsmodern tax

The Ferndale Community Foundation Announced it 2012 Grants at the City Council meeting on June 25, 2012.  Each year the foundation raises money to be distributed to projects throughout the city.  $8,000 was awarded in total.

“We had a lot of really good ideas come in,” said Dan Martin who is on the selection committee and is also a City Councilperson.  “The committee debated these for hours and made some tough choices.”

The Ferndale Community Foundation started in 2003 when a resident left a house to the city in their will.  The house was sold and the money was used to create the foundation, which has since given over $55,000 in grants to fund community projects.

This year the following groups will benefit:

o   Ferndale Good Fellows: $900 (Gifts for kids and shut ins at Christmas time)

o   Ferndale Youth Assistance: $1,400 (anti-bullying and counseling programs)

o   Ferndale Recreation: $$1,627.00 (removable basketball rims)

o   Ferndale Public Library: $2,500 (Sensory and adaptive toys and materials)

o   Ferndale Historical Society: $1,573 (security and preservation of historical material)
