J. Chris Newberg is a comic who grew up in Birmingham, Michigan and went to become a nationwide success in playing funny songs on his guitar, and other all-around hilarity. He’s appeared on Last Comic Standing, America’s Got Talent, and was approved as a stand-by for the Tonight Show. He’s toured with Dane Cook, and even written a song for American Idol.
Now he is in LA, livin’ the celebrity dream. But he is coming back for two nights worth of comedy appearances here in the Metro Detroit area.
On Friday, March 16th, Newberg will open for Saturday Night Live funnyman Kevin Nealon at The Magic Bag in Ferndale (22920 Woodward). Nealon is also well-known for his role on Weeds, and of course as the host of the highly regarded Funniest Commercials of the Year show put on by TBS. Find out more at www.themagicbag.com.
Then on Sunday, March 18th, Newberg will headline two shows at O’Mara’s in Berkley (2555 W.12 Mile). Local comedian Cory Hall will be opening for him. Go to http://www.omaras.net/live-entertainment.html to find out more.
“I left Michigan 7 or 8 years ago,” Newberg said. “I love Ferndale, and Metro Detroit. A lot of my early 20’s & 30’s Michigan memories were from hanging out in Ferndale. I miss the Tigers, Lions, Wings, Downtown, Michigan Radio, Going Up North, The Summer. All of it. I had 36 years of Greatness there.
“I am lucky to be playing at The Magic Bag on March 16th with Kevin Nealon and my March 18th shows at O’Mara’s in Berkley.”
