Police Report: Two Chases End in Crashes and Arrests

Overnight and during the early morning hours of Feb. 28, 2012, Ferndale Police were involved in two chases where both suspects crashed and were arrested. There were no injuries in either incident.

120002070: Man on Parole for Murder Arrested

SUSPECT: HERRON, Aaron Bernard, b/m, 37 yrs. Detroit resident

On 02/27/12 at about 9:15 p.m. Hazel Park Police became involved in the chase of a fleeing suspect driving a Ford Fusion running w.b. on 8 Mile into Ferndale. Ferndale Police assisted in the chase, then took over. The suspect fled south on Gardendale into Detroit. The suspect fled through Detroit neighborhoods until crashing into a street sign at the corner of Pembrook / Santa Rosa and then ran on foot. Officers caught him and arrested him.

The driver was the only occupant of the vehicle. Aaron Herron is on parole for a conviction of Murder 2nd Degree, and his license was suspended.

He was charged with FLEEING AND ELUDING 3RD DEGREE (5 year felony) and Driving While License Suspended.

The MDOC also placed a parole hold on him.

Magistrate Brennan set bond at $50,000 cash/surety.

120001278: Man arrested for Fleeing and Drunk Driving

SUSPECT: JONES, Michael Kyle, b/m, 38, Detroit resident

On 02/28/12 at about 4:40 a.m., a Ferndale officer made a traffic stop for suspected drunk driving  on Jones who was driving a Toyota Rav4. Jones stopped and gave his license to the officer, but then decided to flee the officer and sped away. Jones fled from 8 Mile southbound through the Detroit residential area, then he drove back to 8 Mile where he spun out and crashed into an easement where the police car blocked him from fleeing any further. He was arrested, given sobriety tests, and registered a .18 BAC.    He had previously been convicted for OWI. He has several warrants out for his arrest from other jurisdictions and currently has 13 suspensions on his driver’s license.

Jones was Charged with FLEEING AND ELUDING 3RD DEGREE AND OWI, 2nd offense.

Magistrate Brennan set bond at $50,000 cash/surety.
