Police Report: Busy Drunk Driving Weekend

The report for the weekend is that Ferndale was generally quiet, but for more drunk driving arrests than usual. From the early morning hours of Saturday morning until 12:55 this morning, Ferndale Police arrested 8 people for drunk driving. Two of the arrests were for Felony Drunk driving. Both felony arrestees had extremely high blood alcohol levels and extensive driving records.
1st Felony Arrest: 120001397
On 02/06/12 at 10:15 p.m., an officer stopped a T-Bird near 8 Mile / St. Louis for having an improper license plate. After he stopped the car, he found the driver was drunk and arrested him. Breath tests showed the man had a blood alcohol level of .34 and .35. Currently he has 31 suspensions of his driver’s license four prior convictions for DWLS. He has two prior convictions for OWI.
SUSPECT: Kevin Jerome Spates, b/m, 39 yrs, Detroit resident.
On 02/07/12 at 12:05 a.m. an officer observed a Mini-van swerving on Woodward near Oakridge and stopped the vehicle. Investigation showed the driver was drunk. He was arrested and taken to FPD. He was given breath tests with results of .33. He had 16 current suspensions of his driver’s license and has five prior convictions for DWLS. He has three prior convictions for drunk driving.
SUSPECT: William Leonard Rhodes, b/m, 50 yrs, Detroit resident.
The cases are being submitted to the Oakland County Prosecutor’s office.
Both individuals were arraigned and Magistrate Brennan set bond at $25,000 cash/surety bond.
