Holiday Festivities in Ferndale

Thurs, Dec. 1 – FREE “Tree Decorating” Class at Blumz to Benefit Ferndale Rotary. Fresh Michigan Grown Trees and handmade wreaths, with partial proceeds benefit The Ferndale Rotary Club. 6:30pm – 9pm. Blumz by J.R. Designs (503 E. 9 Mile)
Sat, Dec. 3 – Ferndale Recreation Breakfast and Lunch with Santa. Each child will receive breakfast, treat bag from Santa, and a picture with Santa. $8 for children and $4 for adults. To register a family of 4 or more (maximum 2 adults) for the discounted fee of $20.00, please call the Recreation Office for assistance: 248-544-6767. Kulick Community Center (121 Livernois).
Sat, Dec. 3 – Holiday Showplace. Kulick Community Center for the 20th Annual Holiday Show Place – 9 am to 3 pm. Admission is $1.00 per person at the door. Drop the kids off at our Ferndale Fun Zone for only $1 per child and let them enjoy supervised play while you shop! For the convenience of the exhibitors and public, there will be food available at the concession and bake sale. Vendor applications are now available online and at the Kulick Community Center, 1201 Livernois, Ferndale, MI 48220. Vendor Information/Fees: Vendors may not sell Flea Market items, fresh food or fresh baked goods. However, canned or bottled foods that will be consumed off site are acceptable. Vendor packet PDF available to download under Brochures/Document. Set-up time begins at 8 am.
Sat, Dec. 3 – End of Prohibition Party for Ferndale Goodfellows. The party takes place on Saturday, Dec. 3, 2011. Attendees roam from bar to bar, typically in 1920s clothing – think flapper dresses and gangster clothes (pinstripe suits not colors), celebrating the fact that Americans have the freedom to drink, while helping others with the money raised. This year donations will be collected at: Tony’s, New Way Bar, Valentine Vodka, Howe’s Bayou, Danny’s and Sneakers. Look for the flappers, gangsters, newsboys and rum runners with the brown moonshine jugs to give your donation, and dress up yourself to really join in the fun! Here is the event on Facebook. Sat, Dec. 3 – Wings & Wishes Tree Lighting. Join in this special celebration that will help children and add even more brilliance to Downtown Ferndale. Music, Festivities and the lighting of the Ferndale’s long-growing pine tree at Woodward & Nine.
Fri, Dec. 9 – Girls Night Out at Blumz – Blumz by JR Designs has partnered with The Pink Fund (www.thepinkfund.org) to present a fun holiday shopping night out for the ladies. Lots of fun and funky items to buy for yourself or someone on your list, food, drinks and the chance to give back to a worthwhile charity. Raffles, silent auction. If you have a product or service you’d like to promote, let us know and you may be able to secure a table to display and sell. Blumz (503 E. 9 Mile)
Fri, Dec. 9 – Not So Silent Night – Where else can you scratch aunt Martha and uncle Sid off your gift buying list while sipping quality craft beer and listening to excellent live music? Proceeds to benefit Ferncare-a local non-profit that provides medical care for free to those that are uninsured. The evening starts with Bellisima Musica then kicks up a notch with DJ Top Kat and finishes with two fabulous local bands, The Luddites and I Love Lightning Bugs. Fri, Dec. 9 – Sun, Dec. 11 – Holiday Ice Festival – Dec. 9, 10 & 11 — MotorCity Casino Hotel presents Holiday Ice & Winterfest Market. Bigger and better than ever, this weekend starts at 4 pm, Friday, Dec. 9 with the opening of the Winterfest Market on East Nine Mile featuring a 5-story ferris wheel, a choo choo train, a local green’s market and tents filled with local artisans and their holiday decor. On Saturday, Dec. 10 Holiday Ice hits the streets with fantastic Michigan on Ice themed-sculptures by World Champion Carver Tajana Rakaur. The North Pole will be located at Planavon and West Nine Mile where kids can talk to Santa and pose for FREE photos. Also on hand, Santa’s reindeer and free hayrides. Holiday Ice sculptures will be viewable Saturday and Sunday. Winterfest Market runs Friday, Saturday and Sunday. In addition, local charities will benefit from Downtown Ferndale’s highly popular and extremely successful Warm Hearted Cookie Challenge on Dec. 10.
Fri, Dec 9 – Festive and Free ladies Night Out, Shopping, door prizes, appetizers, drinks and fun, Charity Partner is “The Pink Fund,” 7 pm to 10 pm, Relay for Life will be here to wrap packages.
Sat, Dec. 10 – Rotary Pancake Breakfast – The Ferndale Rotary Club, 8am to noon at Blumz, to Benefit charitable programs of the Ferndale Rotary Club, including local sponsorships for college bound students.
Sat, Dec. 10 – SEO Craft Bazaar – The Ferndale Secondary PTSA is pleased to be hosting the Southeast Oakland (SEO) HOLIDAY BAZAAR Arts & Crafts Fair on the campus of Ferndale High School on Saturday, December 10, 2011 from 10 am- 4 pm. $1 admission for adults. Sat, Dec. 10 – WAB Winter Beer Fest – 7:00pm until 10:00pm -5th Annual Winter Beer Tasting! This year’s theme is Polar Beer and proceeds from the event will benefit the Arctic Circle of Life at the Detroit Zoo! Tickets are $25 in advance of the event, $30 at the door. Ticket price includes endless samples, beer-themed appetizers and more! We will be offering a terrific and eclectic selection of limited-release, seasonal craft beers from around the world, both on draft and bottled. This is guaranteed to be a great and informative party! Beer selections include Wittekerke Winter Double Wit Ale, Gulden Draak Vintage Ale 2008, Scaldis Noel, Trappistes Rochefort 10, Anderson Valley Winter Solstice, and Bell’s Double Cream Stout. Dec 14 – Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer Sing-Along, 6:30pm, Ferndale Public Library 222 E. 9 Mile.
