After 1 year, police are still looking for help from citizens with any information they may have regarding the murder of 64 year old store owner KARIM KHAMARKO. Khamarko was shot to death while working at the Dollar Club Plus located at 2750 Hilton in Ferndale.
On Friday November 26, 2010 at about 9:00 p.m., Ferndale police received a 911 call from a woman who went to shop at the store and found the victim bleeding behind the counter near the cash register. Mr. Khamarko was alive when police arrived, but died later as a result of gunshot wounds.
A press conference and candlelight vigil was held on the one year anniversary. The family and Ferndale Police are working with Crime Stoppers. They have increased the reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in this case from $15,000 to $20,000 in hopes of encouraging someone to come forward.
Ferndale Police Sergeant Shane Ptak and Ferndale Mayor Dave Coulter were on hand to express their sympathy and assurances that the City is taking the murder to heart. “We’ve had leads come in, and things the Detectives have gone out and followed up on, but nothing definitive. Hopefully with the increased reward and the awareness from this vigil it will help bring someone forward. Someone out there knows who did this,” Ptak said. “The Crimestoppers Program does work in cases like this where the police need citizen information.”
Khamarko’s daughter Candace spoke for the family, urging anyone with information to come forward so that she and her family can “have peace.” Dozens of friends, family, and customers came out to give their support in front of the store, which closed earlier this year.
If you know of any information that might help solve this murder call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK UP (773-2587), or the Ferndale Police Department at 248-546-2396.
