FHS Senior Signs National Letter of Intent
Receives Full-Ride Athletic Scholarship

On November 14, Kelsey Wilson, FHS Senior, signed a National Letter of Intent to play volleyball with Akron University. In addition to playing for Akron, Wilson received a full athletic scholarship for tuition, room and board, books and supplies. FHS Athletic Director Shaun Butler shared with the crowd that 1% of all high school athletes receive a Division 1 scholarship, and full-ride is even more rare. Butler continued saying Division 1 coaches do not go after average players, and the FHS is fortunate to have Kelsey, an exceptional student-athlete. Wilson played soccer and volleyball for FHS, and is a member of USA, student government, and the National Honor Society with a 3.83 GPA.
Shannon Pietras, the FHS Varsity Volleyball coach said, “It was a pleasure to coach Kelsey for four years. She is a dominant force at the net, an impact player. She helped transform the way people view Ferndale volleyball.”
Kelsey’s statistics include: • 1st Team All-Regional Team (Oakland County) 2010 &2011 • 1st Team All-League OAA Blue (2009, 2010), OAA White (2011) • Daily Tribune Southeast Oakland County Player of the Year 2010 • All-Daily Tribune Team 2009 & 2010 • Three-year Varsity Starter • American Volleyball Coaches Association Players watch list • 11th Ranked player in Oakland County • Career high school and FHS record (junior year) 518 kills, 142 blocks, 103 aces • Senior year: 353 kills, 81% hitting efficiency, 51 aces, 5.9 digs/game, 152 blocks • National Honor Society Student – 3.83
GPA Kelsey told the audience that she was very honored to receive this scholarship and wouldn’t have been able to do it without her sisters, parents, teammates, coaches and the big support from the athletic office and administration.
