Receives Full-Ride Athletic Scholarship

(Ferndale Public Schools FanOut, 11/18/2011)

On November 14, Kelsey Wilson, FHS Senior, signed a National Letter of Intent to play volleyball with Akron University. In addition to playing for Akron, Wilson received a full athletic scholarship for tuition, room and board, books and supplies. FHS Athletic Director Shaun Butler shared with the crowd that 1% of all high school athletes receive a Division 1 scholarship, and full-ride is even more rare. Butler continued saying Division 1 coaches do not go after average players, and the FHS is fortunate to have Kelsey, an exceptional student-athlete. Wilson played soccer and volleyball for FHS, and is a member of USA, student government, and the National Honor Society with a 3.83 GPA.

Shannon Pietras, the FHS Varsity Volleyball coach said, “It was a pleasure to coach Kelsey for four years. She is a dominant force at the net, an impact player. She helped transform the way people view Ferndale volleyball.”
