Golden Eagle Marching Band Earns 2011 Flight III State Championship
(11/6/2011)
The Ferndale Golden Eagles Marching Band earned Flight III State Championship status on Saturday, Nov. 5, 2011. The Eagles have soared under the direction of Band Director Elon Jamison.
Jamison recently gave an interview to Eddie Carden of Half Time Magazine, which talks about Jamison’s philosophy and successes in directing the band.
When asked what students get out of being part of the band, Jamison told Carden “Hard work pays off. It’s taught them that it’s the process and relationships you build in any activity that are important. You’re never going to say, “Gee, I wish I’d spent more time at the office.” You want to make sure that the time you spend doing anything is worth your while. The kids that walk out of our program are better for it. They’re smarter, better lateral thinkers. They’ve been forced to use all parts of their brain and body at the same time.”
