(Crystal A. Proxmire, 10/24/2011)

Residents in the neighborhood of the Marie Tot Park, on Kensington between 8 Mile and Fielding, can rest assured that the death in the park on October 23, 2011 was not the work of a violent criminal, but the result of a suicide.

The following statement was released by Lt. Wilson:

“On Sunday October 23, 2011 at about 3:45 p.m. Ferndale Police Responded to a report of an non-responsive injured man in the Marie Tot Lot located at the end of Marie Street which runs off Pinecrest. Officers arrived to find a 21 year dead man in a seated position leaning against the park drinking fountain. The man was wearing a uniform from a private security agency. He had shot himself in the chest with a .40 caliber pistol that was laying beside him. A suicide note was also found at the scene.

The man was a resident of Oak Park. In order to respect the privacy of the family, the man’s name is not being released.”
