Pictures from 80s Prom

(10/17/2011, updated 10/20/2011)

For the Friends of the Ferndale Library’s 80’s Prom fundraiser on Oct. 15, Ferndale 115 Editor & Publisher Crystal A. Proxmire did the same thing that she did when her high school prom rolled around back in 1997 – stayed home and wrote stories.

Thankfully, for the big fundraiser local photographer Ann Warner was on hand to get some candid snapshots of prom guests to share with the local media.  Warner is normally an art and landscape photographer, whose work can be found at www.annwarnerphotography.com.
Bodacious babes from all over Ferndale showed up at this 21 and over event, donning gowns from the bygone era of Cinderella shoulders, rad neon fabrics, crazy animal prints, and poofy hair.  The men were equally en vogue, especially Patrick Dengate and his fly mullet extensions and Tim Andrade in his bi-colored suit which was inspired by the Batman character Two-Face.  [Editor note: a prior version of this story mistakenly referenced the Batman character Joker.]  Over 90 people attended.

The event raised approximately $4,000 for Teen Programming and Collections at the Library according to Friends of the Ferndale Library Special Events Coordinator Beth O’Connor.
