2011 Elementary Parent Survey Responses on Web

(Ferndale Schools E Newsletter, 10/07/2011)

In the Spring of 2011, the Ferndale Schools commissioned a survey of families of elementary age children for the purpose of gathering information about current elementary programming and possible future elementary programming.

The survey was conducted by the Research, Evaluation, and Assessment Department of the Oakland Intermediate School District (Oakland Schools), and developed collaboratively by the school district and Oakland Schools.

The survey was reviewed and field tested by Ferndale elementary parents prior to its administration. The raw data results of the survey were received from the Oakland Intermediate District recently and are posted on the district’s website for the review and information of Ferndale School District families and community members.

All names mentioned in the narrative comments of the survey results have been redacted for privacy purposes. An executive summary of the results is being prepared by Oakland Schools and will be posted with the results when it is complete.

Outlined below is a summary of the individual surveys and response information. Each individual report is available on our district website here: http://www.ferndaleschools.org/parents/survey_results.html

• Elementary Program Review Parent Survey:

437 responses were received from a total of 825 possible responses. These results are divided into two parts – 1. A summary of all Elementary Parent Survey results 2. A disaggregation of the results by building and program with each building.

• Grant Preschool Parent Survey: 27 responses were received out of a total of 114 possible responses.

• Survey of District Families with Children from Birth to Four Years Old: 27 responses were received out of a total of 660 possible responses.

• Survey of Parents who, Within the Past Two Years, Left the District or Chose Not to Send Their Children to the District After Enrolling: 27 responses were received out of a total of 187 possible responses.

The survey results will be evaluated to determine whether or not elementary programming adjustments are appropriate and, if so, in what form. This assessment will occur over the next few months, with recommendations from the administration in January 2012.
