Dean Bach is such a loser. And it’s a good thing he’s given up the Jagermeister or he might take offense to that.
Bach, the owner of Dino’s Lounge (22740 Woodward Avenue), entered into a weight-loss competition to help raise money for FernCare, the free health clinic which is having its Grand Opening Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Saturday, Oct 8, 2011.
The big-boned restaurant owner, well-fed from over nine years of upscale but not uptight cuisine, lost 25 and a half pounds in honor of just one of his favorite charities. From July 28-Sep 28 he and his similarly-built cousin Pete K went head-to-head in a weight loss challenge. Money was collected in a jar behind the counter for the two month period, and the man who lost the least amount of flab had to match the collected funds.
Bach lost a whopping 25.5 lbs (247.9-222.4).
But despite this achievement, his cousin K was an even bigger loser. K lost 32.7lbs in the two month time period (257.3-224.6). That means Bach paid up, giving FernCare not only the $215.15 in the jar, but also a matching donation from Dino’s. That’s $430.30 towards medical care for people who don’t have health insurance.
“No Jaegermeister. No late night meals. Eat healthier food. Lots of riding my bike, 10 mile ride 5 days a week. Walk, walk, walk every chance I got.” That’s Bach’s secret for slimming down. K also made better food and exercise choices.
Not only did the cousins’ weight loss raise money for FernCare, it helped showcase healthy living, with Bach and K serving as good examples for others. “I feel great,” Bach said.
FernCare will have their Grand Opening Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Saturday, Oct 8, 2011 as part of an open house that runs form 10am-4pm at FernCare’s new location at 459 E. 9 Mile.
