Free Hugs in Ferndale

(Crystal A. Proxmire, Ferndale 115 News Wire, 7/21/2011)

Ferndale is known throughout the region as a friendly place, as some ladies from the Paul Mitchell The School in Sterling Heights demonstrated when they came to the city this afternoon.  A half dozen salon students wandered about Downtown Ferndale today giving free hugs to anyone that wanted them.

Their giant sign and open reaching-out to strangers meant that scores of hugs were had that otherwise wouldn’t have happened.

“It’s really just everyone needs a hug,” said Candace Ackerman of Grosse Point.  “People saw us and were coming out of the stores to give us hugs.  We have people pulling over and getting out of their cars. It feels great!”

Jennifer Moses is another Paul Mitchell The School student who came from Eastpointe to give hugs in Ferndale.  “It is all about making people feel good and brightening their day. That’s what we do when people come into a salon.  We don’t just make them look good, we make them feel good too,” Moses said.  “Coming out to Ferndale or Royal Oak and giving people hugs reminds us to do that.”
