An unfortunate prediction for rain moved the Bridge Project’s first public performance of big band jazz inside from the Library’s courtyard, but that didn’t stop them from having a grand performance. It was standing room only as they introduced Ferndale to a side of big band they may have never seen before, with a focus on Michigan-made music.

On Monday, July 11, 2011’s City Council consent agenda is a plan to contract with Parkmobile to allow a person parking in Downtown Ferndale to use their cell phones to pay for their spots instead of having to fumble for quarters to feed the meter.

For years Christine’s Cuisine has been a favorite independent restaurant, run by Chrystyna Adams who brings traditional Eastern European food into a mix of other ethnic and American dishes. In the latest episode of Dining in the D, Adams explains the mix of food to host Chef Tom Keshishian by saying simply “I cook what I like.” Hence the name Christine’s Cuisine.

Ferndale Public Schools is pleased to announce a Summer 2011 in-school food service program. Working with the USDA, United Way, and the Michigan Dept. of Education, Ferndale Public Schools will be providing every child 18 years and under, a free nutritious breakfast and lunch throughout the summer.

Volunteers for the Ferndale Blues Festival were recognized at Monday night’s City Council meeting. Organizers also presented a check for $4,000 to one of the event’s benefactors, Ferndale Youth Assistance.
