Bridge Project’s First Performance Packs Library
An unfortunate prediction for rain moved the Bridge Project’s first public performance of big band jazz inside from the Library’s courtyard, but that didn’t stop them from having a grand performance. It was standing room only as they introduced Ferndale to a side of big band they may have never seen before, with a focus on Michigan-made music.

On Monday, July 11, 2011’s City Council consent agenda is a plan to contract with Parkmobile to allow a person parking in Downtown Ferndale to use their cell phones to pay for their spots instead of having to fumble for quarters to feed the meter.

For years Christine’s Cuisine has been a favorite independent restaurant, run by Chrystyna Adams who brings traditional Eastern European food into a mix of other ethnic and American dishes. In the latest episode of Dining in the D, Adams explains the mix of food to host Chef Tom Keshishian by saying simply “I cook what I like.” Hence the name Christine’s Cuisine.

Rev. Veska puts the Ferndale in First United
The church also reaches out through social media and maintains both a Facebook page and a website.
Veska also tries to raise the church’s community profile with special events such as an upcoming Blessing of the Bikes on July 17. Members and the public can bring motorcycles, bicycles, skate boards or “anything with wheels” to an outdoor service, weather permitting.
A Blessing of the Animals is also planned for August 14 as an outdoor service.
Ferndale Schools Offers FREE Summer Food Program
Ferndale Public Schools is pleased to announce a Summer 2011 in-school food service program. Working with the USDA, United Way, and the Michigan Dept. of Education, Ferndale Public Schools will be providing every child 18 years and under, a free nutritious breakfast and lunch throughout the summer.
TP Trouble on Ardmore
For the second time this year a family on Ardmore Drive had to clean up after vandals toilet papered their yard in the night.
On the night of June 30 the culprits left a large willow tree tangled with streams of white paper, and threw debris – including oats, toilet paper, olives and olive oil, and cat litter with feces – along the walkway
Blues Festival Gives Money, Recognizes Volunteers
Volunteers for the Ferndale Blues Festival were recognized at Monday night’s City Council meeting. Organizers also presented a check for $4,000 to one of the event’s benefactors, Ferndale Youth Assistance.
Expansion in Downtown Ferndale’s Future?
Those who were unable to attend the “Back to the Future” event, there will still be opportunities to share your vision and ask questions. When the proposal comes before council there will be opportunity for public discussion. There will also be a survey on the DDA website in the coming weeks, along with more information about the TIF plans.
