Stolen Kids’ Bikes Replaced by Ferndale PD & Community
(Crystal A. Proxmire, 5/12/2011)
Sixteen year old Scott May was at school when his bike was stolen. “I was at soccer practice and I came out and it was gone,” he said.
May was one of ten Ferndale youth who got to have their stolen bikes replaced thanks to a fundraiser organized by officers of the Ferndale Police Department. To read about how Sgt. Baron Brown, Dave Spellman and others organized the event, read our previous article – https://oaklandcounty115.com/2011/04/22/upcoming-fundraiser-to-replace-kids%E2%80%99-stolen-bikes/.
May was presented with his bike at the May 9, 2011 City Council meeting, along with a helmet and a lock. Nine other minors were identified from police reports, and will soon be receiving new bikes too.
Sgt. Baron Brown thanked Ed Schmid Ford, Crandall Worthington, the Hazel Park Lions Club and Hank Kinzey Associates for their contributions towards the new bikes. “It just kind of struck us that we got a lot of bummed out kids every year,” Brown said.
“We want to make sure the residents of this community know we still care about them,” said Police Chief Tim Collins.
