Local musician Dr. Z encountered an uncommon site last weekend as he spotted a horseback rider trotting through the streets of Ferndale.
The man on the horse chatted about his ride, noting that he comes to Ferndale from South Lyon frequently without problems.
According to the State of Michigan Motor Vehicle Code 257.604, “A person riding an animal or driving an animal-drawn vehicle upon a roadway shall be granted all of the rights and shall be subject to all the duties, criminal penalties, and civil sanctions applicable to the driver of a vehicle by this chapter, except those provisions of this chapter which by their very nature may not have application.”
“I was very surprised and told my friend who was driving to turn around as I set up my cell cam,” Dr. Z said. “This was two blocks west of Livernois and 3 blocks south of 9 Mile. I wish I had more time to think of better interview!”
Thanks to Dr. Z for sharing this little-seen side of Ferndale.
