Library Board Selects Kate Pohjola as New Director

(John Sterritt, President Ferndale Library Board, 6/24/2011)

The Ferndale Library Board of Trustees is pleased to announce the appointment of Kate Pohjola as Library Director.  She will begin her employment on August 1.

Ms. Pohjola received her bachelor’s degree from Central Michigan University and a Master of Library and Information Science from Wayne State. She has worked in the Warren Public Library system, and is currently the director of the Lapeer District Library.

“Kate was a pleasure to interview and I know will be a tremendous asset to our library,” said Judeen Bartos, Board trustee. “Among a field of strong candidates, she rose to the top. I and the rest of the Board look forward to working with her in building on the library’s recent achievements.”

Ms. Pohjola is a native of the area, having grown up in Berkley and lived in Hazel Park. “I’m looking forward to getting to know the community and re-learning the area – its home but it IS different and has changed in so many positive ways in the last six years,” she explained. “I am thrilled and honored that the Ferndale Public Library board has chosen me to be their next leader. There’s an energetic & enthusiastic staff at the Library and I’m looking forward to working with them and continuing their momentum.”
