FERNDALE VIEW: Be an Elephant for your kids… SPEAK UP!

(Joshua Kimball, 5/15/2011)

People, SPEAK UP!!! I just returned from the town hall meeting with my State Senator and Representative at the Ferndale Public Library and was the only teacher there. I came to the realization that regardless of what happens with my job security and respective rights, I will be okay, however I cannot say the same for my students. Today I spoke for them… we are the voice for our children. So fellow teachers, parents, grandparents, and anybody else who cares about students, be heard!

In the wise words of Dr. Seuss, from Horton Hears a Who…

“There’s a tiny person on that speck that needs my help!”

“A person’s a person, no matter how small.”

“I meant what i said and i said what i meant. An elephant’s faithful one-hundred percent!”

Let me sum it up for you…

We are the elephants

Our students are the Who’s

Our State and Public Education System is the spec that they live on

And our legislators, with the current bills on the table that will cut the K-12 School Aid Fund, are about to drop that spec, along with every single student on it, into a pot of boiling water.

Let them know “we’re here, We’re Here, WE’RE HERE!!!!!”

The only way we will be heard, is if we all SPEAK UP!

Because if we don’t, who will?

If you really care, be an elephant for your kids… and if you don’t understand what I mean, read Horton Hears a Who – it would be worth your while…  Talk is cheap, but being a voice that is heard is priceless.
