Downtown Ferndale Al Fresco – Waiting for Good Weather

Outdoor dining returns to Downtown Ferndale this week, weather permitting of course. April 15 is the official day restaurants and bars were allowed to extend their space onto the sidewalks, back alleys and intimate courtyards. Downtown Ferndale Al Fresco will be especially celebrated on Third Thursday, April 21, when many of the district’s bars and restaurants will launch the summer season with menu specials.

Approximately 25 different locations will be open (or getting ready to) for customers who want to enjoy a beverage, a bite to eat and a conversation while taking in the best of Michigan’s ever-changing weather.

“We can’t wait to set up the café,” said Michael Hennes of Howe’s Bayou on Woodward. “It marks the official start of the spring and summer season.”

Plus, there is a psychological upside to al fresco dining, says Dean Bach of Dino’s Restaurant & Lounge, “Being outside, with the rumbling sound of the Woodward cruisers, a soft summer breeze while sipping a frosty beverage, it melts away the anguish of a torturous Michigan winter.”
