Celebrate, Remember and Fight Back at the Ferndale Relay for Life (June 11)
(A Ferndale View by Jackie Koivu, 3/16/2011)
I’m sure most if not all of you know of someone that has or is currently battling cancer.
Relay for Life is the signature event of the American Cancer Society that in addition to providing awareness and information about cancer research and programs available to families and individuals that have heard the words “you have cancer”. This event is life changing and gives everyone a chance to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against the disease.
We are all busy trying to keep our own lives in tact however, take a few minutes now and think about those people in your family, community, work place or past that have battled cancer. At Relay, you can find healing, comfort, and support from others who have faced cancer or who have lost a loved one to the disease.
Please take time to stop by the Ferndale Relay for Life and show your support for this amazing event. I know many of you are participating in a Relay for Life in another community and I appreciate all your hard work for your event and for The American Cancer Society however, if you happen to have free time on Saturday June 11th please stop by Ferndale High School and check out the entertainment on and off the stage, enjoy the family friendly festival atmosphere and support the many teams by purchasing food, beverages or whatever else they will be selling onsite to reach their team fundraising goals. Relay is a 24 hour event symbolizing that cancer never sleeps.
If you are not already participating in a Relay Event – please consider starting or joining a team to help make the Ferndale 2011 Relay the best ever.
Even though I now live in Florida and no longer chair of the Ferndale event – My heart still Relays in Ferndale and I will be in town for the event and I would love to see all of you there.
