Getting Lost in Ferndale Reads

Ferndale Reads has begun as people throughout the city delve into free copies of the program’s featured book The Book of Lost Things by John Connolly. Connolly takes readers through a fairy-tale like adventure, and thanks to the Ferndale Public Library’s annual month-long reading event, his imagination is sweeping up Ferndalians en masse. Events are taking place at several venues, and the author himself is coming to give a writer’s talk and then an intimate fundraiser to help fund next year’s reading outreach.

Go Comedy’s The Play of Lost Things (March 10, 17, 24 and 31)– The Play of Lost Things is an improvisionational show based on Connolly’s novel The Book of Lost Things. It runs Thursday nights in March at 8pm at Go Comedy! Tickets ($5) are available online at www.gocomedy.net, by calling (248) 327-0575 or in person at the Go Comedy! box office.
Using John Connolly’s novel “The Book of Lost Things” as inspiration, the Go Comedy! cast will interview an audience volunteer and then weave the volunteer’s story into a fun, funny and completely improvised adult fairy tale. Directed by Ferndale resident Chris DiAngelo, the show will take audiences on what Go Comedy calls “a hilarious romp through some of their favorite fairy tales, movies and TV shows and take their main character on a life-altering journey.”

Book Clubs, Discussions and a Book Party – Ferndalians love to get together and talk about books. On March 12 from noon to 1pm there will be a Book Discussion at AJs Music Café. On March 15 at 7pm there will be one at Treat Dreams. On March 17 the Thursday Afternoon Book Club will cover The Book of Lost Things at 12:30pm. And on
March 24 The Emory will host its Book Party starting at 7:30pm.
Storytellers (March 19) – Three storytellers will read fairy-tales for children at the library at 3:30pm.
Author Talk and Afterglow Fundraiser (March 29) – The Friends of the Ferndale Library and the Library are giving thirty people the chance to rub elbows with best-selling author John Connolly, and ensure that next year’s Ferndale Reads program is a big success. On March 29th, following Connolly’s free, sold-out library event, an afterglow will be held at Woodward Avenue Brewers. Tickets for the event are $30 and are available at the front desk of the Ferndale Library. A ticket is good for one drink, appetizers and a chance to talk with Connolly in an intimate setting. The free author talk is at 7pm, and the afterglow is at 8:30pm.
Unless otherwise noted, all events are free with the intent of getting people in the community excited about reading and talking about books with their friends and neighbors.
