Ferndale business treats kids with leukemia right: Event TODAY

Scott Moloney, owner of Treat Dreams in Ferndale, and the Childrens Leukemia Foundation of Michigan have put together a fabulous program that started a few weeks ago and runs through this weekend: Treat Dreams is selling cupcakes and flavors of ice cream created by two young patients, donating $1.00 from each sale to CLF. You can get those right now, so rush over to Treat Dreams at 22965 Woodward Ave. on the west side of the street, two blocks north of 9 Mile Rd.

Saturday, Scott will bring Treat Dreams and those very special flavors to the Emagine Rochester for the CLF’s Hollywood Nights Movie Marathon from 11 a.m. to midnight at 200 Barclay Circle in Rochester Hills. Sunday will be Super Donation Day at Treat Dreams: from noon to 9:00 p.m., they will donate 50% of all sales to the Children’s Leukemia Foundation of Michigan.

Why? Let me share a couple stories with you.

Several years ago, the mother of a very dear friend of mine passed away from leukemia. It was shockingly quick. It was, of course, devastating for my friend and her friends and family. Having already lost several family members to cancer, I was moved to do something to fight back.

Soon afterward, I found a good outlet to do so. The Children’s Leukemia Foundation of Michigan was organizing the Hollywood Nights 24-Hour Movie Marathon. I was (and remain) a huge film fan, so it was a no-brainer to raise money and stay up all day and night for the cause.

Today, the CLF has held the Hollywood Nights 24-Hour Movie Marathon every year for over a decade. I have been honored to serve on two committees to help organize the event. I have met outstanding people: patients, families, employees of CLF, volunteers, donors, and business owners eager to offer support.

One of those outstanding people is Scott Moloney. One day, Scott and I sat down and shared stories. He told me about how his very buzz-worthy business came to be, how he decided to give up a good career in the banking world for the dream of bring ice cream and smiles and happiness and positive change to the world one scoop, cupcake, and treat at a time.

As an entrepreneur myself, it was inspiring, especially his mission of helping charities through his business. I talked to him a little about myself, shared with him what CLF is trying to accomplish, and it spoke to him. Soon, he met two of the organizations young patients and their stories touched him as well. They touch us all.
