This year may look a little brighter for nonprofits, as recent studies show more Americans are likely to increase their charitable contributions in 2011. Ferndale’s Painting with a Twist™ is giving local residents a chance to do just that as it hosts its monthly charitable event, Painting with a Purpose, with February’s installment supporting Detroit-based Cass Community Social Services.
The event gives community members an opportunity to support a great cause while exploring their creative sides as they paint a picture along with a local artist and interact with friends over a bottle of wine.
Painting with a Purpose will take place on Sunday, February 27 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. The cost is $45, with up to 60 percent of class proceeds to CCSS. Participants will leave with a work of art done on a quality canvas, done well thanks to the help of step-by-step instructions. The featured painting is called “The Prayer” and has dark figures praying amid beautiful green foliage.
CCSS fights poverty by providing meals, housing and a variety of support systems to citizens of all ages and needs, including medical, mental health, vocational and youth services.
Painting with a Twist™ provides acrylic paints, canvases, brushes, aprons, easels, stools, water, wine openers, glasses and cups for participants; all they need to bring is themselves and perhaps a bottle of wine or another beverage of choice.
Painting with a Twist is located at 320 W. Nine Mile Road. For more information or to register for Painting with a Purpose, call 248.850.7182 or visit www.paintingwithatwist.com/ferndale to reserve a space online.
